Same diameter and same length, it was designed so that anything carry AIM-120 can all carry AIM-260Corsair1963 wrote:
Hard to tell by the pictures, but doesn't the AIM-260 have a larger diameter than the AIM-120?

Oh, I thought it was slightly larger.....Yet, still small enough to be carried by fighters that already use the AIM-120. (Amraam)

Re: AIM-260 JATM shape revealed
If that picture is accurate and AIM-260 has similar length to AIM-120, then they are very close in diameter. The length is likely very similar to fit inside F-22 and F-35, but of course the picture itself might not be 100% accurate. I was expecting it to have slightly larger diameter (like ASRAAM vs AIM-9X), but measuring pictures of AIM-260 and AIM-120, they seem to have pretty much the same diameter.Corsair1963 wrote:Hard to tell by the pictures, but doesn't the AIM-260 have a larger diameter than the AIM-120?

That is what I was thinking too....hornetfinn wrote:If that picture is accurate and AIM-260 has similar length to AIM-120, then they are very close in diameter. The AIM-260 was designed to fit into the same footprint as the AIM-120, so its dimensions will be very similar.hornetfinn wrote:If that picture is accurate and AIM-260 has similar length to AIM-120, then they are very close in diameter. Just like the requirement for AIM-120 to fit in the same recesses as AIM-7.
